Just a quick 4 miles

Tonight the breeze was blowing out of the NorthEast. This usually means cold weather is coming. If the briskness of the breeze is to be believed, then we are in for a few cold days ahead.

So, the group met up tonight at our usual spot, and our previous usual time. We had a runner from a different group with us tonight. Welcome, Rich. This guy was a little more hard core than we are. While we were trotting down the boardwalk at our 10 min/mile pace, Rich was running the on the beach and over the mini dunes setup from the Christmas lights. No worries. We all had fun. What's better than running behind a bunch of newly married women who like to talk about the hassles of changing their names while trying to get military base privledges. It's entertaining to say the least.

I felt good tonight, despite the blisters on feet. I think I've found my stride from last summer and fall. Tonight's run didn't hurt my legs at all. Let's just hope I can keep that up.

Here is tonight's run.

Back online.

So, Blogger.com turned off my blog. They said it was a spam blog. I'll admit, it's not the most informative thing in the world, but come on. I just don't have a lot to say.

Last night's run was another brutal one. I went in expecting to only run 6 miles and ran nearly 7 1/4. That wasn't the bad part. The bad part was I just got left in the dust. This group I joined was supposed to be a 10 min/mile group. So much for that. When the leader is gone the kids will have free reign I suppose. I was behind from the word go. So, when I showed up at the finish and everyone was gone, it didn't suprise me.

Anyway, I feel fine after the run and am looking forward to some p90x and luandry tonight.

This morning's run

Here is this morning's run. My longest ever. A little over 9 miles. It wasn't my best effort, as I walked about 1/2 mile total, but still, I was pleased. This makes 18 miles for the week. WOW!!!

A tough week

Ok, so I may have been pushing myself a little too much this week, but frankly I needed it.

The week started with bang and is going to end with a painful wimper.

After running nearly 6 miles on Monday, I answered the call on http://www.meetup.com to do some interval training on Tuesday. Well, Tuesday was cold, about 30 degrees. But Megan and I had a great run. We did 1/2 mile normal pace warm-up, then 4 laps of 200 meters at slightly slower and 200 meters at slightly faster. We normally run around 9:45 miles, our slightly slower is 10 min and our slightly faster we around 9:15. Then we did 4 laps of progressively faster. Start out at 10 min/miles for 100 meters, then 9:45 for 100 meters then 9:15 for 100 meters then gutting it out for a sprint the last 100 meters. Then 2 more laps of cool down and we were down. A nice 3 mile total for the day.

Took Wednesday off from running, but not working out. See the P90X blog for that nonsense.

Thursday, another frosty day at the beach, I met Megan and her hubby Dave at our usual spot. Megan asked if I wanted to add a mile. Not wanting to disappoint I agreed. So, our 4 mile beach run turned into 5 1/8 miles down the boardwalk (with a quick potty break for Megan at Catch 31, you should see the looks you get in that place when you come in wearing workout clothes) to 8th street and then back up Atlantic to our cars. We probably could have made it all the way down to first and gotten in 6 miles, but no need to kill ourselves. Megan is planning that for Saturday when it's warmer.

Next up, 9 miles on Saturday morning. This ought to be fun.

Training for the Shamrock 1/2 Marathon

I've been seriously training for the Shamrock 1/2 marathon now for about 3 weeks.

The first week back was rough. I was only able to run 2-3 miles before getting winded. Not to mention, my speeds were way down.

The next week was a little better. I found a website that let's you meetup with people who have similar interests. Interestingly enough its called MEETUP.com. I've connected with a group of runners who are of a similar pace and skill level. This definitely made a run on a cold night more fun.

Last week was a good building block. I was able to complete 4 miles without breathing too hard. I'm still a little behind in my pace. I'd like to be about 9:30 and right now we're at 9:45 - 10. It's ok, we are building and we are building together. Although, during our wednesday run, it rained very hard and became windy at our half way mark.

Last night, since I missed the weekend "LONG" run, I ran about 6 miles. I did well, but I'm not back to the shape I was in before the VULCAN 10K in November.

Check out my runs on NikePlus.com and TrailGuru.com.
